My name is Brenden McDonough and I have been in love with Woodworking for as long as I can remember.
I started my Woodwork Journey as a child, mucking around with my Grandfather's and Father's tools as a kid. Choosing to take Woodwork and Design classes all through High School, I then moved on to University to study and become an Industrial Technology and Design Teacher for almost 20 years, before deciding to leave the traditional education system and first start my own Design and Manufacturing Company, and now Online Woodworking Courses.
I have always loved the feeling of being able to build something with my own hands, no matter how small - and I want more people to be able to enjoy this feeling as well. Unfortunately, when I speak to people that want to get into woodworking, I too often hear that they think that . .
"I have to have a massive workshop for woodworking, I need thousands of $ worth of tools, I have to attend in person classes, these classes are not local, they are too expensive, I don't have time to pursue my hobbies, YouTube resources are too advanced, too hard to follow, too hard to find..." the list goes on...
Well guess what? I took all of these complaints and started planning and building a beginner woodworking course that you only need an area half the size of your average dining table, with only a small amount of affordable, essential tools - that is set out in a sequential manner, taking you through a step by step process, in a way that is easy to follow and understand, where the common mistakes I have witnessed over nearly 20 years of woodwork teaching are pointed out in advance, that is self paced, that you can complete in the comfort of your own home!
I have set up this course to teach students the fundamentals of novice woodworking, using hand tools only. Can't I learn all of this on Youtube?
The short answer is ... probably?
YouTube is a fantastic resource - we even post project builds on there from time to time. BUT, to find the resources that are the right fit for you as an absolute beginner can be massively time consuming - then when you do finally find a good video, you soon realise it is not the right fit for you.
A lot of modern YouTuber create "Entertaining" content rather than "Educational" content, as that is what feeds the algorithm and allows for higher returns in advertising revenue. This makes it difficult to learn the skills that you see in the videos for yourself, if you have no prior knowledge or understanding of the technical aspects that are occuring in the videos.
If you have the time to scour the internet for free resources (and dodge all the distractions along the way) and can interpret the advanced instructions from professional woodworkers, then YouTube might be the better option for you.

Whilst it would be advantageous if you had and workbench and some hand tools lying around. Maybe you have been gifted or inherited some tools in the past? This will be of benefit to you.
